Cocaine Addiction
Also known as “coke”, cocaine is an alkaloid classified under the stimulant family of drugs. Cocaine addiction is one of the most common, and widespread addictions faced societally for a few reasons. Contributing factors to this are its social normalization and acceptance, especially in the corporate, party, and music scenes. Another factor is that it can be mixed with so many other drugs, especially alcohol in more public settings. Cocaine is generally taken in binge cycles, with periods of hours to days in which the drug is used repeatedly, followed by periods of days to weeks when no cocaine is used. Cocaine addiction can come in this form, or daily use.
The most addictive form of cocaine is called “crack”, which is mixing the drug with baking soda and cooked into “rocks” that people typically smoke, or inject. The high experienced from crack is much stronger, and almost instant, but the crash is much more severe. This is the main reason why people can become addicted to crack much quicker, and it is even harder to break the cycle.
The fact that cocaine is so accessible, and can be used in so many ways, and mixed with so many other drugs make it a very serious addiction. That is why we tailor programs specifically to people struggling with cocaine addiction, so they can have the best possible chance at recovery.
