Individuals experiencing addiction in their lives may feel like it is impossible to quit. Eventually, the continuous cycle of relapse may make it discouraging to actively seek help. They may have experienced extreme childhood trauma, either emotionally or physically, the loss of a parent or close friend, or an loss of opportunity. They may think to themselves “if I had only had done this, or if I only haven’t done that,” and with that buried sense of guilt or remorse the pain was too much to deal with. Certain events that happened bring up feelings or memories that causes depression, unhappiness, fatigue, and frustration. Even though the circumstances may have passed, the emotional pain still lingers. Evidentially, that pain and frustration may last for what feels like indefinitely and they use substances to cope with the pain. However, when the alcohol or drug wears off, those emotions resurface once again.

At Another Road Addiction Recovery Centre, we use a holistic philosophy for addiction to alcohol or drugs. We focus on how to heal the underlying issues that causes addiction.
